United States Dentists Take Part In ‘Dentists With A Heart’ Program
Several dentists in the United States are taking part in “Dentists with a Heart” program that goes on every year. This program takes place to help people who don’t have dental coverage or don’t have a job and otherwise can’t afford to pay for their dental care. During the “Dentists with a Heart” program, many people can walk into a dentist office, who is participating in the program, and get certain dental care done. The dentists who participate only do certain things during the free program and these include x-rays, routine extractions, exams, and cleanings.
According to the National Daily Press, there are also certain dental treatments the dentists won’t perform during the free program. The dental treatments that people can’t get done include root canals, fillings, crowns, and they make dentures. This program is walk-in only and on a first-come, first-serve basis for anyone 18-years-old and older. The dentists participating also give priority to those who are in pain.
This program is so popular; it has been going on since 2005. The dentists participating have donated more than $1 million in free dental treatment for those in need of it. Dr. Wienhold from Fox Valley in Illinois says his office has donated at least $300,000 in free dental treatment in the nine years his office has participated in the program.
According to the Bowling Green Daily News, Midwest Dental has been participating for seven years now. Dr. Jackson actually went above and beyond and performed something very important for a patient that wasn’t supposed to be included in the free program. He ended up doing a full mouth extraction for a patient because it was needed right away.
You can find the list of the dentists, and when they will be participating, here on the “Dentists with a Heart” website.
Another program that went on during the same day as “Dentists with a Heart” is called “Give Kids a Smile Day” and went on at Destiny Dental. This program is only for children who don’t have dental insurance or Medicaid.
The dentists who participate in the “Dentists with a Heart” program say it is a great way to give back to their community. Many dentists, dental hygienists, dental assistants, and other volunteers help out during the free program. Since they get so many people, they are very busy that day.
Although these dentists enjoy helping out as much as they can by giving their services away for one day, they do say this service is very limited. This is because they do get a lot of people coming in on this day to take advantage of this free service.
Dr. Weinhold says that they are very busy on this day and although they only offer this service from 7 am to noon, they never turn anyone away before noon but since a filling would take too long to perform, this is why they only perform certain services for free. Anything else anyone needs, they will need to pay for it or go somewhere else because time is very limited for the dentists. Everyone should understand this since it is a free program and they take people on a first-come, first-serve basis, and are only open for this free program until noon on that day.
With this program going on every year and so many people coming in to get their free dental work done, it is obvious that dental insurance for everyone is needed.
What do you think about “Dentists with a Heart” program? Don’t you agree this is a great service for those who need dental work done and don’t have dental coverage or even a job to pay for their dental work?
