The new BMW 1 series comes with the latest technological innovations that provide fuel efficiency as well as passengers’ comfort and safety

The BMW 1 series is making its second coming into the Nigerian automobile market in a completely remodelled version. The car is now longer and wider than the preceding model. This gives the car interior larger leg space, wider luggage compartment and a more sporty look. The new model also comes with the latest technological innovations that provide fuel efficiency and passengers’ safety.

Sola Adigun, general manager of Coscharis Motors, the BMW franchise holder in Nigeria, said that ‘the all new BMW 1 Series’ body and wheel base are now 85 millimetres and 30 millimetres longer than the previous model.  He also described the outstanding interior and the exclusive features of the car as second to none in its market segment, adding that “the car is youthful and lively.”

The new model is powered by 1.8 and 1.6 four-cylinder in-line petrol engines. The 1.8 engine’s high revving drive system commands over 143-horse power that can speed the car to 100 kilometres within 8.8 seconds. Likewise, its 1.6 engine can speed to 100 kilometres within 9.9 seconds. The engines are equipped with the valvetronic and high precision injection that guarantees high fuel efficiency. Other elements of the car that facilitate fuel efficiency include the visionary hydrogen engine that runs at zero emissions and the BMW’s activehy brid, which is an intelligent, demand-oriented combination of internal combustion engine and electric motor. The fuel efficiency is further enhanced by BMW’s high precision injection, which is a cutting-edge generation of petrol direct injection that injects the fuel at high pressure and with extreme precision. “BMW efficient dynamics means our engines cut consumption, not performance,” the engineers said.

According to BMW engineers, the new 1 Series is a thing of joy and promises unparalleled driving pleasure. The new model is also conceived to comply with the BMW’s efficient dynamics philosophy. The engineers said that the new series guarantees “a high level of driving comfort and dynamic handling to ensure that the BMW 1 Series is a sublime driving pleasure.”

The foundation for this is created by an optional 50:50 axle load distribution and the active steering, which perfectly adopts the steering transmission and steering power support to suit the driving speed. “With its BMW efficient dynamics technology, the new BMW 1 Series is the first in its class to be equipped with optional eight speed automatic transmission, automatic stop-start function in both manual and automatic transmissions. So, it has significantly improved comfort,” Adigun said.

Moreover, the new BMW 1 Series merges comfort with driving safety. Both the driver and the passengers can rely on the new model in any situation. The car has a stiff body and other safety features like the dynamic stability control system, which recognises any tendency to skid and takes appropriate remedial action by intervening in engine or brake management.  This increases traction and makes it easier to accelerate out of a bend.
