A Millionaire Made by Rothmans

By Chikodi Okereocha
Monday, June 21, 2004

The first of the 35 millionaires to be made courtesy of the Rothmans' Collect It promo emerges from Enugu State

Samuel Orji, a trader from Enugu State, has won the grand price of one million naira after he emerged winner in the Rothmans, Collect It promo. This he won upon presentation of all four inserts- Sow it, Grow it, Select it and Perfect it.

Victor Rangaka, head, consumer marketing, British American Tobacco, BAT, presented the prizes to Orji at a colourful ceremony held in Lagos recently. He said the aim of the promotion was to ingrain the product story in the minds of Rothmans smokers.

An obviously elated Orji could not hide his joy as he told the crowd that he was surprised at winning the money. "I was very surprised to hear that I won and thought it was a joke," he said.

To win the Rothmans "Collect It" promo, consumers are expected to collect the complete Rothmans product story written on four inserts in the product's park. Each insert tells only a part of the story under the headings: "Sow it"-which is about how the seed is planted and "Grow it"-how well it is cultivated. Others are "Select it"-the selection process that ensures only the best leaf is used for Rothmans; and "Perfect it"-which guarantees 100 percent satisfaction. A successful collection of the four pack inserts wins the customer one million naira's grand price. Any 10 combinations of the inserts rewards the consumer with consolation prizes of Rothmans' branded items like traveller's bag, mugs, umbrella, food flasks and wristwatches. Consumers were urged to keep collecting inserts, because at least 35 more millionaires are expected to emerge in the game as numerous consolation prizes are also expected to be won.

The promotion started two months ago and is open to consumers and retailers. Winners could redeem their prices uptill the end of July. A Millionaire Made by Rothmans

War on Illegal Courier Firms

By Alex Emeje

There is no longer a hiding place for illegal courier operators in Nigeria. This was a fall-out of a two-day summit organised by the courier regulatory department, CRD, where it agreed with courier operators to checkmate the activities of unlicensed operators. They also agreed to revoke the licenses of those courier operators found engaged in unethical practices.

Simon Emeje, senior assistant post-master general in charge of CRD, told Newswatch that the forum was for brainstorming and cross-fertilising of ideas that could move the industry forward. He also said that the forum was intended to set targets and identify problems in the industry with a view to proffering solutions to them and remove the bad eggs in the industry. Part of the objectives of the summit, he said, was to develop an action-plan for implementation, monitoring and evaluation of resolutions of the summit.
