Putting images on your site may look attractive. But adding important information on the pictures can cause a trouble during web crawls. The most common pitfall is putting one’s address on the image. This will cause issues in your geographically related queries. Since Googlebot can’t read text pictures, don’t expect that your company’s address will appear on the search page. Hence, a lot of SEO experts can’t wait for the day when Google will start crawling information on the images as well.

“Majority of search engines are text based. This means that if you are using DHTML, JavaScript, rich media and images, Googlebot as well as other spiders will find it hard to crawl to these parts of your site. Hence, your site won’t be optimized as in as much as it should be”, Bill Slawski; an SEO expert said.

Sometimes, the problem is on one’s navigation links. If you are using images in publishing your links then don’t expect Goggle to include your site’s link on the search page.

However, technology is evolving and somehow Google won’t just be stuck in crawling texts alone. In fact, this is one thing that many seo services like seo services in London and many others must be prepared of. One of these days, search engines will start doing image recognition and visual queries.

Truth is; there are apparatus and methods that is currently studied and tested to allow search engines to read images. There is one system invented that annotates image automatically, extracts image feature, identify similar images, get texts related to the images, identify and annotate image with their intersecting words.

Another way that Googlebot can read image is through searching image through cluster queries. This can be done by searching similar images on the web. The search result will then be classified through semantic and visual similarities.

On the other hand, Google may take into consideration using Optical Character Recognition. This is used to query text on the document. This allows the search engine to read document information then look for similar documents found on the web.

However, all that were mentioned are still work in progress. Of course Google will only be using these once they have been tested and working well. But until Google finds the right method to read images, texts on images will still remain unread by the search engine. And the only way for search to be quicker is to enable the search engine to match visual query with a named entity. In Bill’s words, this is how he perceives Goggle’s crawling ability; “Google has to solve its “text as images” issue since this has been hurting a lot of sites these days”.

But everyone has to wait and for now use text on important information of their site to optimize their page and appear on the search list.
