There were lots of explosives in the factory, including IEDs that are normally used for suicide bombing. Among items discovered were also a large number of suicide bombers’ vests.During their 6-year campaign, Boko Haram has frequently been using suicide attacks. Their aim is to create an Islamic state, separate from the rest of Nigeria.
Explosives are usually carried in the vests of young women and girls, who explode them in public places such as bus stations or markets. In the ground of the factory site, numerous roadside bombs were discovered. In the line of duty, taking back Buni Yadi, four soldiers got killed and it took longer to take back the town because explosives had been placed underground on the road to town.
In the last few weeks, Nigeria’s military along with help from Niger, Cameroon, Chad and South Africa, has made great gains against the resistance – Boko Haram. Their aim is to stabilize and secure the north-eastern region by the time of elections taking place in a couple of weeks.
According to Olukolade, the discovery will degrade Boko Haram’s capability in producing weaponry and explosives.
