Are Dating Sites Really Safe To Use Anymore?
Dating sites have been popular for a long time now. There are so many of them online now days that keeping up with all of them might make your head spin. Some of the most popular ones online include Match.com, eHarmony.com, PlentyofFish.com, and more. Have you ever been on a dating site looking for love?
Just how safe are dating sites though? When trying one or two out, you really don’t know what you are getting into. You sign up for a free trial or you pay for it right away and you are excited to be able to meet that special someone. However, how do you know if they are telling you the truth about who they are? They could easily be lying to you about who they are, what they do for a living, and even how old they are. So, make sure to do your research before trying one of these sites out. Don’t just dive in and start making plans to meet with people on there.
The Palm Beach Post says, some people have been getting jumped and robbed when meeting someone on PlentyOfFish.com. One man reported that he decided to meet this woman in an abandoned park and when he got there, she and her brother jumped him and robbed him. This is one very important reason not to meet people in private areas or abandoned areas.
WTSP.com reports that this man wasn’t the only one jumped and robbed by meeting a woman in an abandoned park. According to the report, four more attacks happened after that and this was just in one month!
There are some things you can do to keep yourself safe, however. The reports say you need to do a few things before meeting with someone you have never met before. These things include making plans to meet in a public place, getting as much information as you can from the person making sure they properly identify themselves before meeting up, find out where they go to meet other people like a church or a civic organization and check the person’s credibility there, don’t leave with them until you get to know them a lot better, and most importantly, don’t ever let your guard down. Always be watching your back.
Criminals are everywhere these days but it is pretty bad when you can’t even trust a supposedly trusting dating site. This is especially true since many, many people use them these days because they want to be in a relationship with someone. Many people get lonely and are willing to pay these dating sites to match them up with someone they have things in common with.
Not only are people luring innocent people from these popular dating sites, but according to the Examiner Enterprise, there have been reports that scammers are also luring innocent women from these dating sites and tricking them into giving them millions of dollars. This should be enough here and the thought of getting robbed to watch yourself on these sites.
The dating sites used for this included ChristianMingle.com, Match.com, and OurTime.com, which are some more popular dating sites. In fact, a widow from Oklahoma City actually lost more than $1 million last year when a man pretended to be a financial advisor. The man said he was from Manchester, England. Another scam made another woman lose $1.1 million total to a scammer from these dating sites.
If you decide to use any dating site, be careful. Watch who you talk to and make sure you do your research on the person before deciding to meet with them in person.
