If it's Possible, I Will Still Serve Abacha

On November 20, 2007 Bola Okikiolu-Ighile, the Lagos State Director of Public Prosecution, began a fresh prosecution of Bamaiyi after his trial was separated from other four accused persons who had been tried jointly with him for the alleged murder attempt. Justice Olubunmi Oyewole in his ruling on April 3 said the prosecution failed to prove "beyond reasonable doubt" that Bamaiyi was guilty of any of the offences levelled against him. "In conclusion, therefore, I resolve the sole issue for determination against the prosecution. I find the accused person not guilty of each of the four counts alleged herein against him and I hereby discharge and acquit him on each of the said four counts," he ruled. Bamaiyi who is now savouring his freedom spoke with Sam Adzegeh, principal staff writer, on his long road to freedom and other related issues. Excerpts:
